Another season, another summit of success reached by all members of Nottingham Korfball and the club as a whole for 2016/17. Starting the year of play with two teams, new players of varying experience along with a number of returners, the adjustment period understandably took some time. By the end of the calendar year however, everyone was more comfortable with their divisions, their team, and the club experience as a whole which was in full flow heading into the second half of the season…
As a consequence, by the season’s finale, the club saw victory in both East Midlands Korfball Leagues (1 and 2) with the 1st Team ending impressively unbeaten in their fifteen games (fourteen wins and one draw) to separate themselves from the rest and confidently cruise to the finish line. Meanwhile, the 2nd Team, despite being crowded with beginner korfballers, managed to clinch top spot of EMKA League 2 with outstanding performances throughout the year. Further, our 3rd Team – also playing in EMKA 2 – finished in the top half of the league table despite joining the league late and barely managing to scrape eight players together on game days. As a team, as a club, NKC consistently made it work week in and week out with everyone contributing to these accomplishments occurring left right and centre.
Following their domination in the East Midlands korfball scene, both the Nottingham 1st and 2nd Team will now look to promotion to the leagues above their own for 2017/18, with the 1sts scheduled for their playoffs in the coming weeks. The off-season too looks promising with many Nottingham players eager to be a part of the East Midlands squad for the annual Inter-Area Tournament in Oxford in May, not to mention the numerous competitions happening up and down the country throughout the summer.
The future of the club, both near and far, is something all members, fans and korfball aficionados should be excited for as all teams are working to achieve even greater success as we look forward to 2017/2018.
